EXAMINATION/ EVALUATION DAYS
According to the Ontario Curriculum Grades 9-12 Program Planning and Assessment Document 2000, “Thirty per cent of the grade will be based on a final evaluation in the form of an examination, performance, essay, and/or other method of evaluation suitable to the course content and administered towards the end of the course”.
Examination/Evaluation Schedule:
The Kawartha Pine Ridge D.S.B. has assigned ten (10) examination/evaluation days to each secondary school to schedule into their school year calendar.
All exams/evaluations are held in the morning starting at 8:30 a.m.
Unforseen Events During the Examination Schedule:
In the event of inclement weather, power failure or unforseen situations that may arise necessitating the cancellation of an exam/evaluation day, each exam/evaluation day will simply roll over to the next. For example, if the period two examination doesn’t occur due to bad weather, it will automatically be scheduled for the next available day. The period three exam will follow the next day and so on.
Examination Review/Assessment Days:
At Clarington Central S.S. we have scheduled one (1) examination review day in each semester “whereby graded, final evaluation materials and results are shared with the student(s) after the final evaluation(s) have been made by the staff, along with feedback regarding the areas of strength and areas for improvement.” (E.S. 4.1) Eligible students will be provided with the opportunity to complete an additional piece of work on this day to achieve their credit or qualify for summer school.
Alternative Arrangements for Final Evaluations/Examinations:
Extraordinary circumstances where a student may not be able to complete the final evaluation as scheduled, will require a written request from a parent/ guardian (or the student if of adult age). Such circumstances may include:
Time – components may be administered near the end or upon completion of the course
Place – alternative locations should be limited to the school setting
Supervision – supervisors must be board approved
Format – alternate evaluation formats must be equally comprehensive and challenging
Exemption from Final Evaluation:
According to Ministry policy, students cannot be exempted from their final evaluation. Where a student cannot take advantage of alternative arrangements and does not participate in the required components of his/her evaluation, they will receive a mark of 0 which will be weighted into their final grade.
