Students are to dress neatly, in good taste, and in a manner which is appropriate for the school, workplace or an out-of-school activity.

Student attire should reflect what is appropriate in the work environment and should demonstrate respect of self and others. The bottom of the shirt and the top of a student’s pants must meet when the student is standing. At no time should a student’s undergarments be exposed.

All students are required to wear school-appropriate shirts/tops at all times. For female students this specifically means that the following are NOT ACCEPTABLE; bathing suit tops, sport bras, spaghetti straps, tube tops, low cut, cut out, or strapless tops. Shoulder straps must be two fingers in width. Appropriate clothing does not expose bare backs, bare midriffs or ANY UNDERWEAR.

For male students this specifically means “underwear style” or “muscle” shirts are not acceptable. All shirts must have sleeves. Boxer shorts are underwear and should not be revealed by shorts, pants, or shirts.

Shorts, skirts and pants should allow for the comfortable and physically active lifestyle of a secondary student.

Physical education students, athletes, dancers and actors will comply with the dress code/uniform/costume required or approved by the Coach or Teacher. In food classes, fashion courses, hairstyling and science labs, safety regulations will dictate the type of clothing and foot wear to be worn.

Hats may be worn n the halls and cafeteria, but will be removed at any teacher’s request in any classroom. During the playing of the National Anthem hats will be removed.

Bandannas have been associated with gang involvement. The wearing of bandannas of any colour is prohibited by male and female students.

Above all students should use good judgement in the choices of school attire. If you are unsure of whether an article of clothing is appropriate, it probably isn’t.

Any clothing which is deemed as inappropriate or offensive, or which condones or encourages the use of drugs, alcohol, sex, racism or violence is not allowed. Clothing or jewelry depicting drug symbols is not permitted. The Administration of Clarington Central Secondary School reserve the right to make additions to the dress code as necessary.
